Fashion Feast

Sir Philip Green took ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ to the max when he hosted a dinner at The Ivy on Sunday night to celebrate London Fashion Week’s 25th anniversary.

Anna Wintour, editor in chief of American Vogue sat at the top table with the host, together with Christopher Bailey, the Burberry Prorsum designer who shows his collection on Tuesday; Simon Cowell, Kate Moss and her boyfriend Jamie Hince; Natalia Vodianova and her husband Justin Portman; entrepreneur Richard Caring and his wife; and the young Topshop NewGen designer, Richard Nicoll.

Other guests included David Walliams, Naomi Campbell, Simon and Yasmin Le Bon, Susie Bick, Stephen Jones, Pat McGrath – make up artist supreme – and hair stylist, Sam McKnight, Vivienne Westwood, Antonio Berardi, David Bailey, Bella Freud, Mark Fast, Thandie Newton, Harold Tillman, the chairman of the British Fashion Council, Sir Stuart Rose, and the young American designer Jason Wu.

Following the dinner, which included shepherd’s pie and sea bass, the guests were taken upstairs to The Ivy Club for a surprise gig by Bryan Ferry. Everyone danced; everyone sang. Fashion is the second largest employer in the UK, Sir Philip had reminded everyone in a welcome speech. It is also the largest generator of fun and creativity.

Although having all the celebrities at a fashionable dinner and party seems only enviable, it's a great chance for designers and other fashionistas to meet, greet and increase the chances of a potential future collaboration that we the customer can enjoy. But still, who wouldn't want to go? Even if it's shepherd's pie instead of nouvelle cuisine.
