Edinburgh: Missoni's fashion statement
Brand Republic.comThe Italian fashion house has made its mark in Edinburgh's heart with a striking hotel
The lowdown: The first-ever Hotel Missoni made its debut in Edinburgh in June. A collaboration between Rezidor Hotel Group and the Italian fashion house, the hotel was designed by creative director Rosita Missoni, one of the label's original founders. It enjoys a prime location on the corner of George IV Bridge and the Royal Mile, just steps from Edinburgh castle.
First impressions: Fashionistas will love the unmistakably Missoni-designed contemporary interior, a huge contrast from the historic Royal Mile buildings outside the hotel. The black-and-white colour scheme is punctuated with flashes of colour and Missoni prints adorn everything from the dinner plates to the artwork on the walls and oversized urns in the lobby. Service was spot on - friendly and professional but not overbearing - and the cocktail list in the bar is impressive with some Italian twists on classic tipples.
Group check-in: The hotel can provide private group check in on the mezzanine level.
Sleep tight: There are 136 rooms, including seven suites, many of which offer views over the Royal Mile and Edinburgh castle. Rooms feature the same black and white palette with bursts of colour as the rest of the hotel, with Missoni bathrobes and towels in the swanky bathrooms. There are also 26-inch LCD screens with a connection outlets for I-pods or laptops, 100 complimentary on-demand films on offer, a complimentary 'healthy' mini bar, espresso machine, and toiletries specially created and scented using a Missoni fragrance.
Meetings menu: Event planners can choose from three private rooms, ranging from 28m2 to 75m2 and a break-out area, all featuring touches of Missoni design. The largest space can accommodate up to 60, theatre-style, 40 for private dining or 75 for a standing reception.
Added Value: The hotel's location is where its real added value lies. Its position means it's conveniently located to take advantage of Edinburgh's historic attractions, shopping and restaurants. It also has its own signature restaurant, Cucina, created in partnership with Michelin-starred chef Giorgio Locatelli. Head chef Mattia Camorani, who worked at Locanda Locatelli in London, serves up seasonal Italian fare, and the restaurant can seat up to 100 guests. Groups can start off the evening with pre-dinner cocktails in the stylish Bar Missoni.
Client fit: This property would work well for small meeting or incentive groups from practically any industry sector, and particularly those in the design, media, retail, and, of course, fashion industries. Ideal group size for residential programmes is 30 to 40.
Delegate rack rate: Day delegate packages start from £65, with 24-hour packages starting from £305 per delegate, including a three-course dinner in Cucina restaurant.
